Our History

In 1969, L.J. (Jimmy) Christmas, the then Mayor of Coquitlam, (he was Mayor of Coquitlam for 22 years), donated a parcel of land to the Burquitlam Lions Club for the construction of a senior housing complex. The project was physically started in 1969 and completed on February 1, 1971.

The Provincial Government donated a third of the cost and the Federal Government, through Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), provided the mortgage.

As Christmas Manor receives no Government funding we are able to ensure residents of Coquitlam are given priority over those from outside the city, meaning those who have lived here for all or most of their lives are able to continue living in the area they know and are familiar with.

Christmas Manor is one of the few independent facilities which provides accomodations to those on low to moderate icomes. Recieving no Government funding Christmas Manor relies on only the money paid by the residents to operate, we have succesfully operated for over 40 years based on the philosophy that "Christmas Manor is a community based orginization and is for the community of Coquitlam"
Because we receive no funding from any government agencies we are able to serve the community first, meaning we accept those who live in the community first keeping those who have lived in Coquitlam for years close to the areas they know and are familiar with.
